It was time to take a well deserved break from the hectic schedule at the university. we decided to go on trekking on Monday 10th September 2007.
Hmmm, we had a list of mountains to trek:
– Le Pouce : 812m, nord-ouest – CONQUERED in December 2006
– Le Corps de Garde : 780m, ouest-nord-ouest
– Les Trois Mamelles : 605m, ouest
– La Tourelle de Tamarin, 548m, ouest
– Le Piton de la Rivière-Noire, 828m, ouest-sud-ouest – CONQUERED on 10th November 2007
– Le Piton Canot, 550m, ouest-sud-ouest
– Le Morne Brabant, 555m, sud-ouest
– Les Gorges de la Rivière-Noire, 6500 ha, sud-ouest
– Les Sept Cascades, Canyon, oust
All ideas for adventures start off in a small group and it was sheer nick of the moment i and Begum( my neighbouring Colleagues) thought of trekking. Then the idea of trekking started spreading like a virus infecting the brains of my colleagues namely Pascal; Avinash; Kavi; Dassen; Christina; Sudha and Anwar
Unfortunately my other colleagues had installed the anti trekking software in their brains. Infact the sudha’s brain tried to spread the trekking virus to zarine and sonu; but failed 😦 . Also the new comers were also uninfected.
Mr Dhookit came on the last moment and told me that he is also into it as well as our colleague yash .
Then Finally we had a team of 11 up and we applied for casual leave. Poor head and the dean ; they must be wondering whether we are going on mass protest leave ;).
The place was decided : Le Piton de la Rivière-Noire Oufffffffff had a hell of time pronouncing la Rivière-Noire ; guess it is much easier to remember the English name the Black River Peak.
The Time was decided as : 8:00 am on Monday at shopright, Trianon; ( however Begum had modified the virus and retransmitted it at 8:30 as the activation time to pascal; dhookit; dassen; avinash n christina)
Finally we met at 8:40 and were at the base camp where we left our cars at 10:00am.
Hmm thats me fully protected from rain; unfortunately the rain was playing hide and seek game 😦
well it was raining lightly and the soil was a bit murky. we trekked for an hour and forty minutes and reached the summit safely after overcoming all the rigours. My camera batteries malfunctioned and i ended up taking may 6 snaps, luckily for me my colleagues had the camera and mine was not missed. At certain point of time, there was joke of posing for a snap being a pretext for stopping for a few minutes and taking rest, 🙂
at one point sudha and gang were left behind due to her and (kavi, me, dassen n yash) had to wait and shout and let our voices travel through the nature and encourage her to make it (Trailer of the video here: video1). she was more concerned abt keeping her shoes clean ;). the trail was easy except for the final peak point which was similar to Le Pouce . however this time i had the courage and experience to climb it unlike the last time where i was virtually scared to death 🙂
We partyed on the tip of the peak which had a flat area of about 182 Sq Feet. we feasted on chocs, coke, fiesta, snack amongst others and allowed ourself to enjoy the nature at its pristine beauty.
The Trek down was much easier for me, compared to my colleagues; me sudha dassen and yash were the first ones to reach the base camp in 1hr 10 mins though i had the advantage of finishing earlier. the trial back was much easier and quicker.
we had a break at the base camp and then halted at alexandra falls, freaked around a bit where anwar tried to click a snap of me trying to swallow the alexandra falls( hmmm 😉 )
